Pitching clinics can be a great tool to improve your pitching, or they can be a huge waste of money. There are several important factors to consider when deciding to attend a pitching clinic.

Many colleges host pitching clinics in an attempt to watch recruits, as well as a way to make some money for the program. Many of these clinics cost several hundred dollars to attend, and may only last for a day or two. As a pitcher, you might only throw 20 pitches in front of a college coach.

These clinics can be expensive, but they can also be beneficial. Many of the coaches are very knowledgeable and will often provide instruction that you may find very useful. Also, these camps are a great for you to show yourself in front of the coaches of a school you wish to play for.

However, you need to be honest with yourself. If you are a right handed pitcher throwing 82 mph, you probably don't have a very good chance of playing for the University of Texas. Because of this, it would be a waste of your money and time to go to their clinic and be overlooked because of your velocity.

Instead, you should pick a few clinic hosted by schools where you have a legitimate chance of playing for. This way, you will receive instruction appropriate for your talent level, and you can make a big impression on a coach if your talent is up to par with the program's standards. Attending a clinic where you have a shot of playing is a great way to get on a coach's recruiting list. This can be well worth the few hundred dollars the camp cost.

The end decision is yours when it comes to attending pitching clinics. When you choose the right one, you will be in for a great experience and can learn a lot from qualified pitching coaches. However, be careful that you don't choose high-priced clinics that are not worth your time and money.
