Pitching Instructor

Baseball Pitching Training
A training guide for youth pitchers and coaches

A good pitching instructor can be the difference between a good pitcher, and a great pitcher. However, finding a well qualified pitching instructor can be a difficult task. There are certain things to keep in mind when selecting a pitching instructor.

There is a big difference between a baseball coach and a pitching instructor. Not every coach is qualified to teach pitchers. A qualified and experienced pitching instructor is much more beneficial to a developing pitcher than an ordinary coach is.

Ask your fellow pitchers, coaches, and other baseball friends if they know of any good pitching instructors. Many of these instructors are passed around through word of mouth, so don't be afraid to speak up. Make sure this pitching instructor is well qualified. Find out who he has coached before, and go talk to those players. Ask them if the coach helped them, or if you should be looking elsewhere for pitching instruction.

There is a big difference between an experienced pitcher who coaches pitchers, and a good pitching instructor. Just because a pitcher played in the Major Leagues doesn't mean he will be a good pitching instructor. A good pitching instructor will be able to not only find flaws in your mechanics, but also be able to recommend certain drills that will improve your game.

Once you find a pitching instructor, make sure they are fixing your mechanics, not changing them altogether. A good instructor should be able to take your current mechanics and make slight tweaks to them to produce a good finished product. Be wary when a pitching instructor tries to completely change all of your mechanics to fit their cookie cutter model of how they think a pitcher should pitch.
