about SLOW Pitch

Pitching slow pitch
softball is a little bit
different than pitching
fast pitch. Slower
pitches mean more hits
and more hits means more
fun! So how do you throw
a good high arc pitch so
that when you’re on the
mound, you give away as
few hits as possible?
You’ve already got one
part down!
Checking out
www.pitchingtips.com was
a great decision. See?
You’ve definitely got
what it takes to be a
great slow pitcher!
There are two
important things to
remember before you even
pick up the ball. First,
you should be most
focused on putting that
ball where the batter
could possibly make
contact but definitely
not have a successful
hit if she does. Second,
any pitch under 6 feet
or over 12 feet is
illegal. You have a 6
foot window to place the
arc of your ball on its
way to the batter.
Okay, got those down?
Now it’s time to
actually throw the ball!
- Hold out the
ball like you’re
showing it to the
batter. You’re
saying, ‘Better get
a good look now,
because the next
time you see it, my
catcher will be
showing it to you!’
- Swing back and
then forward and as
you pass your hip,
prepare with your
palm toward the sky
and let it go.
So there is one more
thing to think about:
your stance. Make sure
you’re comfortable on
the mound and if,
mid-swing, you suddenly
feel uncomfortable, you
are allowed to take a
step if you want. Just
keep your pivoting foot
in contact with the
pitcher’s plate until
you let go of the ball. |
